Asbestos Disposal
QUINN-environmental is also the only fully licensed site in Northern Ireland that can accept asbestos for disposal.
Asbestos is a naturally occurring mineral fibre. If humans are exposed to it, there is the potential for very serious health implications. By virtue of this, it is deemed as hazardous waste.
Asbestos waste may only be disposed of at a site that has been licensed by the government to accept it. (Asbestos Waste is classified as hazardous waste if it contains 0.1% asbestos or greater. You cannot add other waste to dilute the content of the waste).
Under the EU Landfill Directive 1999, co-disposing of hazardous wastes was prohibited from July 2004.
QUINN-environmental has put in place its own designated asbestos cell whereby sheet and lagging asbestos can be disposed of safely in accordance with the Landfill Directive.
Asbestos waste can only be disposed after suitable procedures have been agreed with the Northern Ireland Environment Agency.
QUINN-environmental always works in accordance with these strict procedures and strives at all times to operate at the highest of standards.
